Tips and Useful Information

Pick your Aircraft Seat before you fly
www.seatguru.com allows you to look at seating layouts for all the different aircraft that airlines use and see which seats are considered BAD/FAIR/EXCELLENT/Etc. (like which exit row seat does or does not recline).

Tips

International Travel

You may not need an electronic plug converters.  Most electronics are made to accept 220 volts with some exceptions (older electronics come to mind).  Check your electronics beforehand, especially your hair dryer.

Reserve your bassinet in advance for baby travel.  Even if baby doesn't sleep in it, the bassinet will provide you with a break giving the baby another place to hang out.

If you can get bulkhead seats, the bassinet will fit much nicer.

Add International Dialing to cell phone or rent international phone

In Italy, there are not a lot of curb's that make stroller's easy to use.  We used a backpack stroller and Ergo carrier to make walking around easier.

Bring extra zip-locks, a couple of carabineers, a couple of bungee's.

Carry-on luggage

(if traveling with a baby / Child)

Change of outfits for parents and children
Socks
Pacifiers
A dozen small toys (a Book, Blue painters tape, finger puppets, silk scarf, pipe cleaners and cheerios. You can also attach yarn to toys in case they throw them, they are easily snatched back up and not rolling to the back of the plane.)
Bottle
Portable DVD player
Child Headphones (Kidz Gear is fantastic: http://www.amazon.com/Kidz-Gear-Wired-Headphones-Kids/dp/B0007NWL70/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1277137437&sr=8-1 )
Tylenol for babies or kids
Snacks / Sandwiches

Air Travel Tips

During seasons and holidays when air travel is typically at peak use, remember to print your boarding passes 24-hours in advance to save time.

If you typically need extra leg room while flying or are flying with a small child in your lap, you may want to purchase a seat upgrade.  These are often handled 24-hours in advance online.  Seat upgrades sell out quick so don’t wait until you’re leaving for your flight try and upgrade.

Strollers can be given to plane staff at the gate and need not be checked.

Pack light.  Some airlines have lowered their per bag weight allowance and charge per bag or charge if the bag is over the weight allowance.

If you're planning on buying clothes or shoes while on vacation, consider packing old clothes and shoes and then donating them or tossing them in your destination city.  This will leave room in your luggage for your new stuff.

The specifics and bottom line

Airfare: No we're not cheaper than anyone else, sorry. We're also NOT more expensive. FACT: The price of a plane ticket is set by the airlines themselves. Regardless of what you've heard on TV nobody can offer air travel any more or less expensive. But if its the same why not use us?  also...

YES our search engine is really cool and state of the art. (please play with it yourself). One EXCELLENT feature is that the price you see next to the flight in the search is the TOTAL price of the ticket (they don't hide the fees until the end like some other engines do). This means that when you go to purchase your ticket you are paying the price you saw on the screen. Not that price PLUS taxes, fees, etc. I really like that feature. Its also very easy to book multi-day multi-destination flights. Make sure and check out the Advanced search features that let you set Class and other search settings.

Hotels: YES ...YTB (our parent company) is constantly negotiating rates with all the major chains. And if you find a better rate from a competitor you can email me with that rate and I can negotiate with the hotel directly (yes I'm a travel agent now :)) Extended stays and group rates especially...check with me first.

Rental Cars YES. Same as above we have direct deals with all the major rental car companies. Excellent rates on the site but for long term we can possibly even beat those.

Especially for any long term and group situations for business travel we are happy to book it for you and negotiate with hotels, etc at no charge directly to (yes we make commission but you don't pay it)

Our company is set up to compete directly with Orbitz, Travelocity, etc.

Which means we COMPETE. We HAVE to offer the best or better deals or no one would use us.

Here's a recent open letter from our CEO published on MSN that says it better than I can:

OK - FUN STUFF

CRUISES, VACATIONS - omg I'll talk directly to you about this but don't even THINK about booking another cruise, Island vacation, golf trip, etc without checking with me. CRAZY deals get negotiated by YTB every month.

Many of them are available right on the booking website but I also have access to the "back room" stuff. Some of which is truly ridiculous....

We also have a cool little feature they brought online recently where they throw up "last minute" little mini-vacations weekly for all kinds of destinations around the world. I'm just getting signed up on the email today...Its a weekly thing that comes to your email that tells you what they're offering.

Real bottom line: Let's do some traveling! :)
